Security Guard

Location: Greater Toronto Area, Ontario, Canada

Overview:
We are seeking dedicated and vigilant Security Guards. As a Security Guard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our clients and their assets. Your primary focus will be to deter unauthorized access, prevent theft or vandalism, and respond to security incidents promptly and appropriately. This role requires strong observational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of others.

Responsibilities:

  1. Security Patrols: Conduct regular patrols of the premises, including interior and exterior areas, to detect and deter any suspicious activity or security breaches.
  2. Access Control: Monitor and control access points, ensuring only authorized personnel and visitors are allowed entry. Verify identification, issue visitor badges, and maintain accurate records of visitor information.
  3. Incident Response: Respond promptly and effectively to security incidents, such as disturbances, alarms, or emergency situations. Take appropriate actions to mitigate risks and escalate incidents as necessary.
  4. Surveillance: Monitor security cameras, alarm systems, and other surveillance equipment to identify potential security threats or unusual activities. Report any suspicious behaviour or security breaches to the appropriate authorities.
  5. Crowd Management: Maintain order and control during high-traffic periods or special events, ensuring the safety of individuals and preventing overcrowding or unauthorized access.
  6. Security Reports: Prepare accurate and detailed incident reports, documenting securityrelated incidents, observations, and actions taken. Maintain proper documentation of shift activities and submit reports to supervisors as required.
  7. Safety Compliance: Enforce safety regulations and protocols to prevent accidents, injuries, or property damage. Conduct routine safety inspections and report any hazards or violations to the appropriate personnel.
  8. Customer Service: Provide excellent customer service by assisting visitors, answering inquiries, and providing directions or guidance when needed. Address any concerns or complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
  9. Emergency Preparedness: Assist in the implementation of emergency response plans and procedures. Conduct regular drills and training sessions to ensure readiness for various emergency scenarios.
  10. Collaborative Approach: Collaborate with team members, supervisors, and external stakeholders to maintain a cohesive security operation and share relevant information or insights.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training or certifications in security or related fields is a plus.
  2. Experience: Prior experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field is preferred. Experience in conducting security patrols, monitoring surveillance systems, and responding to incidents is highly desirable.
  3. Physical Fitness: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, as well as the physical capability to handle potential security situations or emergencies.
  4. Observational Skills: Strong attention to detail and keen observational skills to detect and assess potential security risks or threats.
  5. Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with individuals at all levels, including visitors, staff, and emergency personnel.
  6. Problem-Solving: Effective problem-solving and decision-making abilities to handle security incidents or emergencies in a calm and efficient manner.
  7. Integrity and Professionalism: Demonstrated integrity, ethical behaviour, and a professional demeanour when dealing with sensitive and confidential information.
  8. Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Good interpersonal skills to build rapport and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, clients, and the public.
  9. Flexibility: Willingness to work on rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Ability to adapt to changing schedules or priorities as required.
  10. Valid Security License: Possession of a valid security license or the ability to obtain one is required.
  11. Two-Way Radio Operation: Proficient in operating a two-way radio system, ensuring effective communication within the security team and with other personnel.
  12. Loss Prevention Experience: Demonstrated history of effectively implementing and managing loss prevention measures as well as strategies will be an asset.
  13. Smart Serve License: The possession of a valid Smart Serve license or the potential to acquire one will be regarded as a valuable advantage for this position.
